Central City Comic Con 2016
I had a weird feeling that Central City Comic Con would be difficult to attend this year. A typhoon hit the coast, and another Convention starts next week. Because of this I had only two hours to enjoy the show.
The roads were so slick, passing someone meant fear of hydroplaning off the road. There were idiots without lights on, and thus were nearly invisible in all of the rain. I also discovered my new (to me) car had problems getting to the speed limit quickly. I was forced to pull off and wait for a break in traffic while trying to get onto the freeway.
The show grew this year. The entire convention floor was taken up, and they filled it. There was also a curtained off Videogame area.
The owner of Elite Gamers talked to me a little bit. It's an online store located in Yakima. They tried to have a store front, but it was broken into several times. However they want to support any local gaming or Geeky thing they can. The gamers in Yakima are an untapped market and seem very dedicated to him.
He told me the Super Smash Bro's players surprised him with their dedication.
There were several games on display. The big surprise to me was the Playstation VR games. They haven't been released yet to the regular gamers. He had multiple games, like horror, and a shooter. The fun one was Job Simulator. It had you walking around an office doing terrible things to it.
There was also a Marvel Fighting Game using the Kinect. You did specific movements for cool attacks. I beat Wolverine with Iron Man. It was fun, but slow.
The game I really wanted to play was a driver using a steering wheel and pedals. The turning was really off, and the platform holding the pedals kept moving. It made driving difficult. I still want something like that.
There were still things the Videogame guys wanted to have. A multicade wasn't quite ready for showtime so next year might have some arcade games.
While discussing this, a 10 year old began talking to us about it. He said he wasn't that young and knew how they worked. Another guy mentioned how someone said 1999 was old school gaming.
The rest of the show floor had multiple booths. There was also a kids area witj coloring books, glue, and construction paper. I wanted to volunteer there next year.
The best was seeing friends in cosplay.
I did get more photos from being there, but it was a short visit.
To see the rest check out my Instagram: Alfred_Haus or Native Videogamer on Facebook.
The trip back was fsurly boring. The rain had stopped falling and the roads were not as treacherous. I did think there was a car behind me at one point because I saw the sky. It was also funny to be driving through Yakima valley in a mini SUV like I had as a sports photog.
I got home, and already looked forward to next year.
