Videogame News for January 15th -31st of 2015
Artistic EM
Electro Mechanical machines have been around for around 100 years. There were games, and other things in arcades at all sorts of train stops in major cities. As videogames began to dominate, the EM machine has been put to the side. You usually see these machines handing out tickets. Artists have taken the idea of the machine and made artistic games for people to enjoy. Most of the links here are to the show by Tim Hunkin, but there is also a cover story by Arcade Heroes.
Microsoft
The link below will give you a good long overview of the show. You don’t need to see the entire presentation on your own. The new tech, like the hololens, look really cool. I sort of wonder how they will be used in real life. The kinect can do some great stuff, but it seems only a few are willing to try things out with it.
Mario Demake 2600
The links are to the forum post of the game, so you can download it. Also, a video of someone trying the game out. I have not gotten it to work yet, but man do I want to try. Batari Basic is really opening up the old Atari 2600.
Avengers FPS
You will find two articles covering the interesting looking Avengers FPS. Sadly, the levels looked cool but were very corridor like. This wouldn’t be a problem, but Hulk and Thor are not the types to stay within a confined space. Unseen 64 has the best overview, and some amazing videos and pictures, so you should check it out.
LucasArts on GOG
Good Ol’ Games is a great website with a nice classic feel. The Lucasarts games look great. There is actually a bit of debate about Grim Fandango’s remake, and if it is worth it. Still, I want a Day of the Tentacle release.
Arcade Expo
There are only a few videos of the Arcade Expo California, and most of them are for pin machines. Still though, what I saw was great. The article by Pop Culture Maven is filled with pictures to enjoy.
