Japan Arcade ExPo JAEPO

I was going to post about another arcade in Phoenix when I found out about the Japan Entertainment Expo happening over the weekend. Needless to say, there is not a lot of information about it that I usually don’t read. Trying to get into this stuff is hard because you don’t know where to look at times. Luckily there is an answer, and we must thank the good people of New Astro City for posting so much. In fact, the pictures being posted will be from their page. So, I am really hoping you give them a look, and a like because they are the ones doing the hard work.

A little indoor city
The design of the expo is very much like Phoenix’s grid pattern.

As you can see, there are small stations for each display in a giant warehouse area. The balloons are a nice touch to tell you where things are. The doll on the left is for a game called Hero Bank.

The expo is entirely for Arcade game companies in Japan, and is being run by the JAMMA organization. It is not just a standardized way to make arcade games, the organization also works to promote arcade entertainment in general. There will be a meeting between the heads of the companies about what will be done for the JAMMA standardization, and arcades in general.

Each booth is a city of its own. It appears that they are smaller boxes inside, and each side of the box is another game on display.
Bow before Super Inflatable Hero Overlords!

The game that is catching my eye is a card battle game, with intense animations for each attack.
Attack with giant weapons, on little cards.
This is a battle fishing game. No really.

There are all sorts of things to follow on twitter to find out more. The words are #JAEPO and #RX99GUNDAM. You can find out all sorts of really amazing pictures with this. Also, niconico.com has videos of the games and displays if you look up JAEPO as well.

The first video I found was of a sniper game. I was wondering if these games were still around, because they are a lot of fun.
Beautiful, plays games, and is a sniper. Yeah, she is babe.

Not only that, I found a new webshow to watch. Netageo is a guy talking to the camera, and showing off the latest geeky thing. This video is about the Capcom and Taito displays. Make sure to stay for the piggy races.
I just found out this was 2013. Ah well.
You shake the pig to move him, and point him in the direction you want

Another interesting thing is the companies displaying items. Sega has a major booth, as well as Nintendo. The two companies are known for their consoles, but it seems they have kept their arcade roots.

The subject is a lot of fun, and so long as you have a translator there is tons to find out. The show is running for the rest of the weekend. I will update as much as I can over the weekend. Once again, check out New Astro City for other updates.
